What it is

What is a coolant pressure test?

A coolant pressure test pressurises the cooling system with a hand pump and holds it there, so any loss of pressure reveals a leak in the radiator, hoses, water pump, heater core, thermostat housing or head gasket.

We also test the radiator cap, check coolant strength and condition, and inspect the fan and thermostat operation.

Why it matters

Why this service is required

• Overheating is one of the fastest ways to destroy an engine — a warped head or blown gasket can cost more than the car is worth.
• Small coolant leaks often evaporate off a hot engine, leaving no puddle, so a pressure test is the only reliable way to find them.
• Old or diluted coolant loses its corrosion inhibitors and eats out radiators, water pumps and alloy heads from the inside.
• Brisbane traffic and towing put sustained heat load on the cooling system all summer.
