What is a timing chain replacement?

A timing chain does the same job as a belt but runs in engine oil and is designed to last longer. Over time the chain stretches, the plastic guides wear through and the hydraulic tensioner runs out of travel.

We replace the chain, guides, tensioner and sprockets as needed, renew the timing cover seals, verify cam correlation with a scan tool and confirm the fault codes stay clear after a road test.

• A stretched chain retards valve timing, costing power and economy and setting cam/crank correlation codes such as P0016.
• Broken guides drop plastic debris into the sump where it blocks the oil pickup — a fast route to bearing failure.
• If the chain jumps a tooth on an interference engine the valve damage is the same as a snapped belt.
• Missed oil changes and long service intervals accelerate chain wear dramatically, which is common on many modern direct-injection engines.
